You take the good with the bad...

At the assessment yesterday, my little guy was identified as having autism. The good news is that I am living in one of the few counties in the US with a strong program for both identifying and educating children with autism. Since he is so young, and still won't speak, they can't give us a clear idea just how severe the autism is, or if it may get worse, it is just a matter of moving ahead with an educational program and see how he takes to it. Luckily the folks here in Loudoun have a well deserved reputation of focusing on the children, and getting the best from them. In the meantime, we will just have to have faith that it is not severe (it does not appear so at this point in time) and that we will be able to teach him how to cope with this disability in the years to come. If he is anything like the other members of my family whom we suspect have autism, I will not have to worry too much. They may be quirky, but they are all very intelligent and have done well for themselves in the long run. Now - to just get him to communicate with us ;-> But - we don't give up easy, plus we have a whole STORE full of people, both employees and customers, who are willing to help with him. We feel very blessed to be surrounded by some many good people from so many walks of life - just their presense increases his chances for a successful outcome. And for those of you who are wondering - Childfind in Virginia is an amazing program, and even more importantly, they have some really amazing people working for this program. Some of the kindest, gentlest, and patient people I have met in the last three years are part of this program. If there are any of you out there who are also facing this situation, take heart, we are very very lucky to be here where these folks can help us.

But we are looking forward to tonight for our AHCH with one of our favorite singers, Rene Carawen of Rhianon fame. And of course we are celebrating First Friday in Leesburg tonight, so we are hoping for hordes of folks to stop by and listen to our music, have some tea and coffee, and enjoy themselves!
And maybe tomorrow, when all the car lovers are out at the Kohl's checking out the vehicles, their significant others who may not be as enthused about things on wheels will come out and check out our ongoing Psychic Faire this weekend, making sure all the psychics are kept busy prognosticating all weekend long!!!

heh... can you tell i just figured out how to include links in my blog ;->
